Eric Whitacre

I have never heard of Eric Whitarce before and I’m so grateful today I have the opportunity to listen to this amazing piece he conducted ‘Lux Aurumque’.  It is the most beautiful piece, with an amazing concept behind it.  Bringing everyone in the world together through music!

  1. I am with you, I have never heard of him before and thought his concept was pretty cool. In my initial post, I have never really seen YouTube as a "useful" thing. Mainly videos of just rubbish, and nothing educational or inspirational. Now I see that maybe there is more hope for that form of informational media.

Also, it would be nice if we could use YouTube to actually solve some of the world's most serious problems. All we can do is dream right?

  2. Kevin, you raise an interesting question about a concept we call "affordances" -- from the sense of, what opportunities does a given medium afford us? What possibilities does it create, and just as much, what possibilities does it *not* make available?

I note this comment because of how you see YouTube usually being used, versus the possibilities that the Whitacre stuff seems to show. I want us all to be encountering various modes of writing in this course with an eye toward 1) what they *could* be used for, versus 2) what they're *actually* used for (at least usually). The gaps there can be fascinating and tell us a lot.
